Toor Dal: 1 Cup
Tamarind: Lemon size
Vegetables: 2 cups chopped into big chunks, choice might be(Carrots, Drumsticks, Bottle guard, Small onions, Brinjal, Radish etc )
Turmeric powder: 1/4 Tsp
Red Chilli Powder: 1 Tsp
Sambar Powder( You can get it from any Indian stores)-- 2 Tsp
Jaggary: 1/4 lemon size
Salt to taste
For seasoning:
Oil --2 Tsp
Mustard Seeds: 1/4 Tsp
Fenugreek Seeds: 1/4 Tsp
Cumin Seeds: 1/4 Tsp
Curry leaves: 10
Red chillies: 2
Garlic cloves: 2
Procedure:
- Soak tamarind.
- Cook the Toor dal in pressure cooker till tender then mash.
- Cook vegetables with little salt, chilli powder and turmeric powder in cooker for 1 whistle.
- Extract pulp from the tamarind and add to the cooked vegetables and boil it in open pan.
- Add the mashed Dal to the above mixture.
- Put sambar powder at this point.
- Add salt if required.
- Boil for 5-8 minutes then add jaggery to it.
- Then add seasoning with the above ingredients to the sambar.
- Serve hot with Rice.
